Explaining to Children Why Good Friday is Good
Good Friday can be confusing for children. After all, it is the day that Jesus was put to death so how can that be a good day? That’s why at All Saints Lutheran Church we have a special Good Friday Children’s Service just for children.
Through this unique and interactive event, children and parents (or other caregivers) alike will see and hear the story of Holy Week in a whole new way that brings the incredible events and true meaning of this week to life.
During this service, the children will be taken on the same journey that Jesus took that week. From waving palms celebrating His triumphant entrance into Jerusalem to the last supper to the crucifixion, to the glorious resurrection, the kids will learn and understand the true meaning of that Holy Week and what it means to us today.
If you have children, please consider attending this special and moving service. All ages are welcome, but do note the service is designed with children in mind!
Frequently Asked Questions About
Good Friday Children’s Service
When is the Good Friday Children’s Service? How Long Will It Last?
The service is at 10am on Good Friday, March 30. The service will last approximately an hour – maybe a bit longer.
Do I need to a member of All Saints Lutheran Church to attend?
No. Like all our services, all are welcome!
Is there child care for small children?
No. The Good Friday Children’s Event is for ALL ages. Little ones are welcomed.
What is the difference between Children’s Good Friday and regular Good Friday?
The Children’s service is more like an extended children’s time that talks about all of Holy Week. Our regular Good Friday service focuses only on Good Friday and is more somber.
How will the children participate in the Good Friday Children’s Service?
Children will march with palms, might get their feet wet, feel a thorny crown, gather around the foot of a cross, have a snack, make a craft that helps them celebrate the resurrection, and they dance into the sanctuary proclaiming the joy of Easter!
If I come to Children’s Good Friday services, do I need to come for Easter Sunday?
Well, of course! We provide a little Easter for the kids so they know that Jesus doesn’t stay on the cross, but families are invited back to experience all of the JOY of the resurrection on Sunday morning!
What are the other Holy Week Services?
We have a full week of services including:
Maundy Thursday, March 29 at 7pm
